The theme stated by QiC at the start of the morning was “Love More”. That is, pick an element of the Murph that you want to “love more” (improve) and work on it during the Thang.
In the Moleskin, QiC gave the reminder that due to the enduring and everlasting love and grace of God, we were bought by the blood and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. There is nothing we can to do earn or cultivate more of God’s love. He loves us more than we can comprehend, and our proper response is to love Him back.
The workbook “Be Transformed” by John Murphy (Rock House Counseling Center in Nashville – I highly recommend this workbook for any type of recovery/dealing with hurts, habits, and hang-ups. It is Biblically-based and contains strong recovery principles), describes how believers often tend to think in terms of and attempts to “love God more” in a quantitative manner – as if trying to amass or generate more love for God – which would be the key to pleasing and obeying our Lord. And we hope this would result in a deeper, more mature faith and relationship with Jesus.
However, this process is not about learning to “love God more” in the way described above, but rather, love God more – than anything else! Instead, we should recognize the ways that we place things, people, and ourselves above God. Repent of idolatry. Return to worshiping Christ – and Christ alone. That is the key to pleasing, obeying, and truly loving God – and to having the deeper faith, relationship with Jesus, and more meaningful life for which we all seek.
It was a joy and honor to lead you men this morning. We started the week strong together! I love you brothers!
