I’ve been reading where Jacob in the OT had to run away from some things in life after he had deceived people. His brother and then his father in law. His actual name meant deceiver or supplanter. He’s met at night by either an angel or the Angel of the Lord, and they wrestle all night. I’m sure he was tired and weary, but he didn’t give up. He probably felt like we do, or worse, after a beat down. The angel asked him his name, and he was faced with admitting and saying who he was and what his name meant. He also knew that God had blessed him and had declared such great blessings over him that he would not let go of the angel and not let go of his inheritance. Because of his tenacity and vigor, he was given another name. Not only does the name Israel mean, “struggles with God”, but its also “Triumphant in God”.
Know where you are in life as a man, admit where you are, wrestle down the struggles, and never let go of the blessings that are meant for you.
