Darkhorse – 9.11.01

15 HIM showed up in the gloom to pay honor and respect to the 2,977 men and women who lost their lives exactly 20 years ago today, as well as to all the heroes that rose up throughout the years to defend our freedom.  Each segment of #ao-darkhorse today paid tribute through the significance of the numbers from 9/11. @Yaris @PrimeTime Kwame @Peewee (TRAPP)@Gutter Ball @2Buck @Offsides @Tijuana @Snooki @The Boot @OPIE @Buckeye @MaryAnne @Green Acres  FNG @Ralphie, and YHC as Q @MapQuest
Pre-Party – 5:55am
The PAX got in an early stretch and then assembled for a short dedication to tee up the morning.  With American flags lined up on one side of the court, and the PAX on the other, we paid tribute to our freedom and to all 9/11 heroes with the playing of our national anthem.  Thank you, Whitney Houston.
THANG 1
The Q then read the following:“On the morning of September 11, 2001, many significant events occurred that changed our nation forever.   One specific event, is when a Boeing 757, bound for San Francisco, was taken over by terrorists.  Realizing that it had been hijacked, a few brave passengers courageously overtook the hijackers and diverted their mission.  That plane crashed in Shanksville, PA.  All 37 passengers and 7 crew members perished.  The flight was United 93.”
  • In honor and remembrance of all those who lost their lives on flight 93…the PAX did 93 SSH in cadence
The Q continued…“Also on that morning, another Boeing 757 departed from Washington Dulles International Airport, bound for Los Angeles.  It was also hijacked and shortly after crashed into the Pentagon.  All 58 passengers and 8 crew members, along with 125 military personnel in the Pentagon perished.  The flight was AA 77.
  • In honor and remembrance of all those who lost their lives on flight 77 and in the Pentagon, the PAX did 77 squats in cadence
THANG 2
The PAX then formed a single file line and set off on a Darkhorse/American Heritage run.  The year was 2001, so to pay tribute, the route carved out was exactly 2,001 meters. The American flag lead the whole way, with it being passed on to the next darkhorse runner as each PAX made his way to the front.  The PAX started from the Riverwalk parking lot, headed over the bridge to the Columbia square, up through stairwell parking garage downtown, completely around City Hall square, and back.  We arrived at the playground field where the next segment was already laid out.
THANG 3 – DORA Tribute
A special tribute dora course was mapped out.  A stack of coupons begging to be used, 9 sets of beat down exercises were mapped out.  Each being 110 reps.  @Peewee (TRAPP) was called on to countdown from 20 as our flag was placed 40 yards downfield.  The PAX were instructed to take turns with their partner, one person doing the exercise listed, while the other runs 40 yards with a coupon, does 11 overhead presses with said coupon at the end of 40 yards, coupon then stays at downfield, while he then bear crawls back.
  • 9 = September
  • 11 = The day
  • 110 = # of stories in each WTC
  • 20 = years since the tragic event
  • 40 = percentage of men and women never recovered from that day.
The PAX were encouraged to think about all of the men and women lost on that day, especially those never found or recovered. The exercises:
  • 110 burpees
  • 110 4 count American Hammers
  • 110 Iron Mike’s
  • 110 merkins
  • 110 LBC’s
  • 110 jump squats
  • 110 flutter kicks
  • 110 lunges
  • 110 WWII’s
THANG 4 – Moment of silence
At 6:58am, the Q assembled the PAX back into a circle and stated the following:At exactly 7:59am eastern time, or 6:59am, central, approximately in one minute 20 years ago, American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767 carrying 81 passengers and 11 crew members, departed Logan International Airport in Boston, bound for Los Angeles.  This was the very first event in the timeline of events that were triggered throughout that day.  The first plane to depart; and the first plane to crash into the WTC. In solemn remembrance and to pay honor and respect for all 2,977 lives, the men, women, firefighters, police, paramedics, and all of the military heroes, a moment of silence.”The PAX did so for over a minute, while holding a plank until clock tower chimed 7:00am.  America the Beautiful played quietly on the speaker as we reflected in our own silence.

A little bit about my testimony.  I always believed in God growing up, but never understood the significance of grace as a free gift.  I always thought of religion as a list of rules, rather than a relationship with Jesus Christ.  That all changed during the week of 9/11.  The events brought me to my knees, literally.  On September 13, 2001, just two days after 9/11, I committed my life to Christ in a new way, by making a decision live for him.  There is more to this and I’m happy to share with anyone.But my point in sharing this, is due to the fact that Christ is now my source for peace and comfort during the peaks and valleys, and especially in times of trial and uncertainty.  We all go through hardship.  Some of us are going through it now.  My encouragement to everyone is to look beyond ourselves for the answers.  The Bible is packed full of wisdom that is timeless.  Prayer is a conversation with a God who loves us.  If you aren’t in the word, try with small bits at a time.  I closed with reading Psalm 23, as a reminder that Christ is always our comforter and our source of peace. The Lord is my shepherd;
I have what I need.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside quiet waters.
He renews my life;
he leads me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even when I go through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
as long as I live.
