Ragdoll Gets Back In Shape
AOQ @ragdoll resurrected himself from summer vacation and took back the reigns of #ao-battalion this morning as 15 HIM crawled their way to strength.

Q’s been either DR or out of commission the last several weeks, and I figured the only way to jumpstart my road back to fitness was by leading a workout. Poor life decisions. I’m my own worst enemy.
Warmup: We do a few leg stretches and then crank out 50 SSH. @Pancreas (Nant’an) is disappointed we stop halfway to 100, but I can’t please everyone. We’ve got work to do.
We mosey to the pile-o-rocks behind the playground and each choose a coupon to suit their capabilities and ego. Then we run to the football field and line up on a sideline.
Thang 1
10x squat jumps over our coupon
20x merkins + jump over the coupon
40x iron mikes holding coupon at chest or above head
60x coupon overhead presses
Sprint to other sideline and politician back
We rinse and repeat. @Heidi (1st F Q) correctly informs me that a “merkin + jump over the coupon” is a coupon burpee.
Thang 2
We line up in the end zone and, for some reason, I don’t know what comes over me, tell all the PAX to bear crawl to the other end zone. We all get to work.
@Rudolph and @Pancreas (Nant’an) are either deathly allergic to bear crawls, or a hornet simultaneously stings both of them in the butt — either way, they take off at a full-out bear gallop down the field. @Heidi (1st F Q) correctly informs them that bears do not gallop. Either way, over-achievers are encouraged to come back and encourage the rest of us – namely me – as we do real bear crawls.
What crawls up must crawl down. From the other end of the field we crawl bear back to the other end zone. I remember midway that I went over the workout with my M last night and she told me this was all a terrible idea. @Heidi (1st F Q) correctly informs me that I’ve acted like a typical man who doesn’t listen to his wife, and that this is all my fault.
We end with a celebratory and partnered Native American Heritage Run. Partners drop and give 3 burpees then sprint to the front as we mosey around the park.
That’s time!
I had the opportunity to get away with my M over the past week, sans kids, and spend some time in the mountains, which was a very much appreciated getaway with time to reconnect and have some uninterrupted conversations.
I know we’ve said it before, but this trip reminded me how very important times of deliberate rest and connection are. Whether with our spouses, SO’s, family members, friends, our Shield Lock — we need community and we need the purposeful strength of those around us to build us up as we go through the day-to-day of life. Be purposeful – just as purposeful as you are about attending a morning beatdown – to carve out time to rest and reconnect with the most important relationships in your life. You need them, and they need you. We were created for relationship and community. Don’t let it go unattended!

@Dizzy Gillespie (F3 Dads) is on Q at Battalion next week! At the end of coffeeteria he asked me how many football fields there are at Battalion. There are 3. “Well, we can double up,” he says. So, there’s that.
